GUIDELINES for independent senior living at Pioneer Lodge:

Independent seniors must be their own decision makers for residency at Pioneer Lodge. Pioneer Lodge does not enter into an agreement for residency and is not responsible to provide communications or information with a resident’s power of attorney, substitute decision maker, or anyone else as such. A primary list of personal contacts are provided by the resident for emergency contact purposes, and a designated family/friend is requested by the facility for support to resolve any issues regarding services as outlined in the residency agreement.

For the purposes of living in Pioneer Lodge, functional Independence is defined as: Independence in all aspects of daily living: ambulatory without aides or independently ambulatory with aides; able to independently manage all physical bodily functions; consistent stability of both emotional and mental health. If functional independence can only be maintained with the assistance of Home Care, and if Lodge documentation has seen “functional independence” begin to deteriorate; the situation will be discussed with the resident, the family, Home Care and the Physician regarding the appropriate alternatives for supports and suitable living accommodation.

New applicants provide a summarized health assessment obtained through their local HomeCare services. This health assessment is reviewed by the Pioneer Wellness Supervisor to ensure a good match is made to one of our facilities.

1.) If staff notice a significant change in the health status of a resident who is already residing in the Lodge, and

2.) If resident care needs appear to be greater than that which can be supplied by the scheduled services available through Home Care, or

3.) If an applicant or current resident care needs exceed what the Lodge can safely provide, residency at the Lodge is as a safety risk to the resident, other residents and/or the Lodge staff;

Pioneer will discuss preparations for moving to a care facility that will better meet the needs of the resident.

Review the differences at Continuing care – Overview | Alberta.ca. Pioneer Lodge is Supportive Living and Pioneer House is Designated Supportive Living. While we strive to enrich the individual lives of each resident, it is necessary to note that neither facility includes personal one-on-one care.
